Plunge in- Diving tour

The water in Silfra has been filtered through the lava rocks and is as pure as it gets. In spite of an insulating undersuit and a impenetrable dry suit the cold will eventually get to your hands (despite the gloves) and when you emerge from the water the ice cold skin, wrinkled from the mask, with the hood pulling at your forehead, looking cool is not really an option. ,,A face only a mother could love,“ says Kevin

Put on an insulating under-suit and plunge in!

Silfra is an Elephant Man amongst rivers – a real freak of nature. With a steady temperature of 2-4 °C all year around, it doesn´t heat up in the summer and it doesn´t freeze in the winter. On a good day it has a visibility of 150 meters and is ranked as one of the world´s best diving spots. The river slings across Þingvellir, smack in the middle of the North Atlantic rift, where the North-American and Eurasian tectonic plates drift apart.

Scuba Iceland offers trips, putting an emphasis on high safety standards  and small groups. As Kevin, an underwater archeologist and one of Scuba´s guides, so eloquently put it, the experience is: “Controlled fu**ing mayhem”. The clarity of the water may even evoke a sense of vertigo when you place your mask underneath the surface for the first time. The ravines reach a depth of well over 60 meters, into the darkness. Certified divers can explore the world below immersed by the ice cold water and for those who don´t have a certificate, the snorkeling trip is highly recommended.

Swimming with the current and having all senses simultaneously bombarded, nobody would blame you for getting so excited that you gulp down some water through your snorkel. Not to worry! The water in Silfra has been filtered through the lava rocks and is as pure as it gets. In spite of an insulating undersuit and a impenetrable dry suit the cold will eventually get to your hands (despite the gloves) and when you emerge from the water the ice cold skin, wrinkled from the mask, with the hood pulling at your forehead, looking cool is not really an option. ,,A face only a mother could love,“ says Kevin. The feeling of amazement and happiness is equally unavoidable as you jump off a cliff for a last splash into the so-called “Toilet”.  The conclusion: LSD is illegal in Iceland. Plunging into Silfra isn´t. Both will blow your mind and give you flashbacks with a sensation:  “did I just  imagine that?”
